About
Layla Haddad is a painter whose work returns again and again to the cities her family carried with them: Jerusalem, Akka, Birzeit. She paints from memory, family photographs, and the stories told around her grandmother's table.
She has taught painting workshops with the Academy since 2023 and works from a shared studio on Chicago's South Side.
Artist statement
I paint places I have been told about more than places I have seen. Each canvas is an act of keeping, a way of saying that these streets still belong to the people who remember them.
